Cooper ratten funeral son of former carlton footballer mourned his demise on Tuesday after being laid to rest at the home where he grew up.
Cooper had been receiving treatment for depression in Australia since October 2015 when he committed suicide in a hotel room.
The 53-year-old has a son with his wife of 52 years, Kate.
The pair married in New Zealand in 2000 and had three children together, and Cooper"s widow said he was now "not going to be a part of our lives".
"I wanted to say goodbye to my husband because we had a wonderful life together," she told the Daily Telegraph. "He will be missed.
"This is an awful event, but I am relieved to hear so much was said," she added. "It is hard for me to say goodbye but the fact that we don"t have to say goodbye makes the event even harder."
The funeral was at the Waiheni Rd home of brother-in-law Joe O"Connor, a retired coach in the Queensland Reds who retired last year after 31 years as a professional.
Cooper and a former team-mate, Mark Wilson, were at the weekend members of the Brisbane Strikers.
Wilson was given a state funeral in Australia on Sunday, but Cooper was not, it is understood.
Cooper had also been at the forefront of a battle against the Government"s new drug guidelines and urged other rugby league players to contact the NRL"s Integrity Unit or the NRL Integrity Authority to voice their concern.
Cooper, who was reportedly suffering from depression, was reported to the NRL Integrity Unit by players who believed he would be in the wrong place at the wrong time after his brother-in-law passed away, the newspaper reported.

He had also been receiving treatment for depression in Australia after a series of high-profile deaths, including a 2012 fatal car crash in Queensland.
Australian National University professor of psychopharmacology, Bruce Mottram, also said Cooper was "absolutely" mentally ill, the Telegraph reported.
Petition to "Save Brian Cooper"
The petition posted to Facebook by Dr Mottram to protect Cooper can be seen on the website.
While it is unclear what would result from any action the petition, the "save Brian Cooper" campaign started on 1 August and has received close to 1000 signatures.

There are at least 20 Super 14 tournaments worldwide, with the United States, Australia, England, Russia and France taking part.
The Super 14 season runs from April to September and includes games against Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
The tournament features all Super 14 teams – with one sub-competition each year.
The 2014 tournament drew 14,542 fans to the state"s second base at the Melbourne Sports Council Ground at Melbourne Park.
Wale"s first trip to the final was in 2013 when the Storm won the first event against the Melbourne Storm at the AFL grand final.
The Storm have yet to play a game this season but are now ranked in the top two.
Wale said in a statement: "The way the league has evolved in the last few years, and the changes that have happened in the top four, it just makes it a whole lot more fun – with each one playing at a high level, the fans are at home watching their teams and players and I think that is what the game is about.
"All the fans are out there, on their smartphones, but I would love it if we could all just come together and enjoy ourselves for a few more years, I think that"s what we can achieve."
